Exclusive | Moped-riding perp shot dead after pulling gun on NYPD cop during robbery was an illegal migrant involved in three other thefts

Lahione Soto, a 30-year-old illegal migrant from the Dominican Republic, was fatally shot after brandishing a gun at an off-duty NYPD officer during a robbery attempt in Washington Heights. Soto had participated in three other armed robberies just hours before the incident. Along with an accomplice, he allegedly robbed victims, including a married couple, within a 20-minute timeframe. Following the confrontation, Soto was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his accomplice fled the scene. The off-duty cop sustained non-life-threatening injuries and recovered a loaded firearm from the scene.
