Tony Harris, a 62-year-old Bronx man with a criminal history of over 26 arrests, was unexpectedly released without bail in June on gun and drug charges. Despite serious allegations, including possession of multiple loaded firearms and narcotics, Judge Anna Mikhaleva chose to release him under supervision, which included wearing an ankle monitor. Tragically, while still under monitoring, Harris shot and killed Emilio Rosas outside a deli, leading to his eventual incarceration at Rikers Island. The case highlights ongoing concerns about bail practices and public safety for repeat offenders.
Harris was finally locked up on Rikers Island following that arrest.
Harris has been arrested 26 times on charges including robbery, drug and gun possession, and menacing.
