A Brooklyn lawmaker is advocating for a simplification of the cumbersome supportive housing application process known as form 2010E, which requires extensive documentation from applicants. This lengthy process, which can take months to complete, disproportionately impacts homeless individuals who may lack access to necessary records. Councilmember Sandy Nurse proposes a three-month review of the application to alleviate burdens and enhance accessibility to supportive housing, aiming to provide urgent assistance to those in need of stable housing and related services.
The application, dubbed form 2010E, can take months to complete and requires prospective tenants to provide their medication and hospitalization history and show proof of homelessness, as well as a recent psychiatric evaluation.
Let's get them inside, and then the service provider or the caseworker can help contact the hospitals and find out where this person may or may not have been.
