Cops shoot, critically injure 34-year-old NYC man after he charges at them with knife: NYPD

On Thursday night in the Bronx, NYPD officers responded to a report of a man wielding a knife in an apartment. Despite repeated orders to drop the weapon, the 34-year-old suspect advanced towards the officers, prompting one officer to fire his weapon and critically injure the man. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, while both officers were evaluated at a local hospital. A knife was recovered at the scene, underscoring the dangerous situation faced by the responding officers.
The two responding officers repeatedly ordered the 34-year-old to drop the knife, but the perp refused, cops said. The suspect then "advanced" toward the officers - knife still in hand - and one of the cops fired his service weapon, striking the man.
He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. Both officers were also taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
Police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife inside an apartment on Mulford Avenue in the Pelham Bay section of the borough at around 11:20 p.m.
Investigators recovered a knife at the scene.
