Brooklyn Museum Walks Back Layoffs
Briefly

On Feb. 25, during the Brooklyn Museum's 200th anniversary gala, museum workers protested potential job cuts that would eliminate 47 positions due to a projected $10 million deficit. The workers, supported by union members and others, aimed to fight against layoffs. After negotiations, an agreement was reached on March 9 providing a voluntary separation package instead of layoffs. This includes severance pay and health insurance options for those leaving. Union leaders expressed commitment to secure sustainable funding while ensuring job security for the museum staff.
Most of us could work at any cultural institution, but we choose to work here. I do it because of the people I work with, and I'm here today standing shoulder to shoulder with you, fighting for no layoffs.
We secured an agreement that is fair and results in no layoffs for our members. We will continue pushing for sustainable funding for the city's cultural institutions.
