'Billy Bad Ass' gang member busted in unprovoked attack on elderly straphanger
Briefly

An ex-con member of the "Billy Bad Ass" gang attacked a 70-year-old man on a subway train in Harlem for no apparent reason. The incident occurred late at night, attracting police attention after another passenger reported the assault, leading to the arrest of one suspect. This individual, with a lengthy criminal history including gun offenses, is on parole until 2027 and is linked to past shootings. The subway violence statistics show a slight decrease in felony assaults but an increase in misdemeanor assaults, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in New York City's transit system.
The elderly victim was riding a southbound A train through the 145th Street station in Harlem around 11:30 p.m. when two men - including the 27-year-old criminal on parole - stormed up to him.
A gangbanger on parole was busted in connection with the random punch attack of an elderly man on board a train passing through Harlem on Sunday, cops and sources said.
He is also wanted in connection to two Queens shootings, both from 2016, according to the sources.
A total of 119 felony assaults have been reported in the city's subway system so far this year, slightly down from the 124 tallied during the same period in 2024.
