The recent release of Lee Ernest Walker, who fatally shot NYPD Officer Juan Andino over stolen eyeglass frames in 1984, underscores growing concerns about New York's parole policies. Since late 2017, 43 cop-killers have been paroled as part of relaxed parole rules implemented by former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Advocates criticize the current Parole Board as overly pro-criminal, with allegations that many members are past their terms. Governor Kathy Hochul faces pressure to reform the board's composition to balance parole decisions, especially amid rising crime concerns and criticism from law enforcement agencies.
It appears that the parole board has far too many pro-criminal activists whose intention is to release cop-killers. It's time to clean house.
The outrages included springing cop-killer Anthony Bottom, a Black Liberation Army radical, after four decades in prison as well as Weather Underground member David Gilbert.
