These 8 Democrats voted for the Republican national 'Don't Say Trans' bill passed by the House

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 2616 with support from eight Democrats and all 209 voting Republicans. The bill would require teachers across the country to out transgender kids to their parents if it becomes law. It would also prohibit schools nationwide from acknowledging that transgender people exist. The measure, called the “Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act,” would bar federally funded schools from teaching “concepts related to gender ideology.” LGBTQ+ advocates warn the language could prevent staff from acknowledging transgender identities in classrooms, libraries, or support settings. Critics also say earlier versions treated “gender dysphoria or transgenderism” as inherently “sexual,” and that the policy could force students to disclose their identities before they feel ready or safe.
