Seven-year-old Ruwaid Karim, a non-verbal autistic boy, was reported missing after slipping out of Dera Restaurant in Jackson Heights. His mother, Farjana Akond, was momentarily distracted when he wandered off, leading to a substantial police search including the use of aviation units. Ruwaid was found hours later by a woman named Christina on the Upper East Side, who acted quickly to ensure his safety from oncoming traffic. After recognizing him from social media descriptions, the police reunified him with his relieved family.
I went to the restroom to wash my hands and just in two minutes I saw he had disappeared. He's never been out on the street, so I was very worried.
There were two different cars going each way that stopped and they were honking their horns, and he just kept going.
