Two teenagers from New Jersey, Joseph Kling (19) and a 17-year-old co-defendant, were arrested for allegedly starting the Jones Road Wildfire, which consumed over 15,000 acres. Initially, they blamed the fire on supposed Mexicans they had seen in the woods. However, investigators disproved these claims through cellphone evidence and witness interviews. Both face severe charges, including aggravated arson, while Kling's lawyer argued that he never intended to ignite a massive blaze. As of now, the fire is nearly 80% contained.
The two New Jersey teenagers, Joseph Kling and his 17-year-old accomplice, are accused of intentionally starting the Jones Road Wildfire, which burned over 15,000 acres.
Authorities report that both defendants initially lied to police, attempting to blame the wildfire on Mexicans seen in the woods just prior to the fire starting.
Investigators used cell phone chats and witness testimonies to establish that the accused deliberately set the fire and misled law enforcement about its origins.
Despite the destruction caused, Kling's attorney claimed in court that his client did not mean to start such a widespread and damaging forest fire.
