Long Island teen sues over 'trauma' of pro-Palestinian parking spot being painted over
Briefly

Jane Khan, a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School West, is suing the school district after administrators painted over her pro-Palestinian parking spot. She argues in her lawsuit that her artwork, which included a watermelon design and Arabic text, caused no disruption or harm. The situation escalated after a social media post calling for the spot's removal, prompting her principal to confront her. Khan claims that the school historically fosters coexistence and that her viewpoint was unjustly erased, seeking unspecified damages for emotional trauma.
"Ms. Khan's artwork created no substantial disruption of any school activity or threatened harm to the rights of others," according to her Brooklyn Federal Court lawsuit against the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
"Half Hollow had no history of open tension between its ample Muslim and Jewish populations - to the contrary, it enjoyed an enviable history of positive coexistence," Khan said in the legal filing.
