In a recent harrowing event in Gaza City, displaced Palestinians at Hamad School were confronted by Israeli tanks and quadcopters demanding their evacuation. Amal al-Masri recalled the anxiety within the school as families prepared to leave under duress after enduring nights filled with shelling. As the chaos unfolded, Yousef and his family attempted to escape with their identity documents, while losing track of family members amidst the panic. The situation highlights the intense fear and dislocation faced by civilians in the ongoing conflict.
At dawn, we heard [Israeli] tanks encircling the school, and quadcopters overhead began ordering everyone to get out... People were already tense after shelling and explosions.
The quadcopter shot at the buildings and dropped sound bombs, sending people into a panic as they rushed to gather whatever they could.
Yousef and the four children held up their IDs and their hands, while Amal held the baby in her arms. In the chaos, Yousef lost track of his father.
There were soldiers at the school gate with tanks behind them, and more soldiers surrounding the place...
Now, it was dawn, and a recording of a male voice... ordering everyone to come out with their IDs and hands up.
