AFT Sues Trump for Blocking Access to Loan Repayment Plans
Briefly

The American Federation of Teachers has filed a lawsuit against the Education Department, alleging that the Trump administration has hindered the student loan system by pausing income-driven repayment applications. The lawsuit seeks a court order to reinstate access to these repayment plans and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which benefits public servants. AFT president Randi Weingarten criticized the changes made by the current administration, asserting that access to these programs is crucial for millions of borrowers.
The lawsuit, filed in the Washington, D.C., federal district court, stems from the Trump administration's decision three weeks ago to pause all income-driven loan repayment plan applications.
Today, we're suing to restore access to the statutory programs that are an anchor for so many, and that cannot be simply stripped away by executive fiat.
