Stephen Malkmus, the frontman of the band Pavement and his latest project, the Hard Quartet, enjoys playing tennis weekly after moving to Chicago with his wife, Jessica Jackson Hutchins. Recently, during a tour stop in New York, he was spotted at the McCarren Park tennis courts, engaging in a hitting session with friends while his bandmates arrived for lunch. The supergroup, often labeled an underground supergroup, showcased their personalities through the food choices they made, highlighting the blend of leisure and companionship in Malkmus's life as an artist.
"You are what you eat," Kelly said.
"French Dip was my reform-school nickname," Sweeney said.
At noon sharp, the next group of players arrived and briskly shooed everyone away.
Malkmus, attuned to the rusty visitor, said, "Each band member ordered something indicative of his personality."
