Mamma Mia!, the iconic ABBA jukebox musical, is set to return to Broadway this summer for a six-month run at the Winter Garden Theatre. The show celebrated its 25th anniversary in the West End before its return, marking 24 years since its original Broadway debut. Known for its feel-good themes and timeless ABBA hits, Mamma Mia! has captivated approximately 70 million viewers and grossed over $7 billion globally. Its success can be attributed to the warmth of its story and the nostalgic music, establishing it as a cultural phenomenon.
"Last year, Mamma Mia! celebrated 25 successful years in the West End, and it's truly fantastic to bring the original production back to its Broadway home after 24 years," said Judy Craymer.
"Mamma Mia! began performances on Broadway on Oct 5, 2001, less than a month after the destruction of the World Trade Center. New Yorkers were eager for escape, and Mamma Mia! provided it."
"To date, the show has been seen by some 70 million people and grossed more than $7 billion. It has also been translated into 15 other languages."
"The musical has also been adapted into a hugely popular 2008 film with Meryl Streep-"
