Jazz composer Angel Bat Dawid has unveiled her upcoming album, 'Journey to Nabta Playa,' created in collaboration with Naima Nefertari, set to release on May 2 via Spiritmuse. The album is inspired by the ancient astrological stone circle located in the Nubian Desert and the folktales of Virginia Hamilton, particularly from her book 'The People Could Fly,' which speaks to magic and freedom. Leading the album is the single 'Procession of the Equinox,' which showcases Dawid's distinctive musical style infused with folklore elements.
"They say the people could fly," Hamilton wrote. "Say that long ago in Africa, some of the people knew magic. And they would walk up on the air like climbing up on a gate."
The album, Journey to Nabta Playa, is out on May 2 via Spiritmuse, featuring the lead track 'Procession of the Equinox'.
The album draws inspiration from the ancient astrological stone circle in the Nubian Desert and Virginia Hamilton's celebrated folktales.
