Amid Kennedy Center Upheaval, a Maestro Decides to Stay On
Briefly

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington is experiencing significant changes following President Trump's takeover, including staff turnover. However, Gianandrea Noseda has confirmed his commitment by extending his contract as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra until at least 2031. Since becoming the conductor in 2017, Noseda aims to enhance the orchestra's presence through more tours, new commissions, and opera performances. The recent leadership changes have resulted in a mix of apprehension and stability within the organization, particularly from its musicians expressing pride in their work.
Mr. Noseda has extended his contract through at least 2031, stating he feels he has more to accomplish with the orchestra.
We have established this kind of mutual trust in our relationship, Mr. Noseda said, noting it would have been a pity to stop.
Mr. Trump took over the Kennedy Center last month, purging its board of all Biden appointees and installing himself as chairman.
Deborah F. Rutter, the center's president for more than a decade, was fired, credited with luring Mr. Noseda to the orchestra.
