A longtime Mexican folk art store in NYC is in danger of closing-here's how you can help
Briefly

La Sirena, a beloved Mexican folk art store in the East Village, is in danger of closing after 27 years. Owner Dina Leor, who fell in love with Mexican culture during childhood visits, is currently offering deep discounts on handmade items to clear stock. Despite her non-Mexican heritage, she's dedicated to sharing the artistry of Mexico. Having started the shop after losing her job as an art therapist, Leor travels extensively throughout Mexico to source authentic artifacts, fostering community connection through her store's offerings.
Leor is currently liquidating her wares with deep discounts. As she says, "depending how it all goes, [we] will be closing or continuing on."
Leor describes herself as "Argentine American with a Mexican heart." Her fascination with Mexico spurred her journey, culminating in the creation of La Sirena.
At La Sirena, customers can explore a variety of Mexican folk art, including Frida Kahlo pendants and Day of the Dead tribute items, sourced directly from artisans.
"There's something about Mexico. I was enamored, and I still am today. It's my passion, everything about it," Leor expressed, emphasizing her deep connection to the culture.
