Met Éireann is warning of the potential for spot flooding and transport disruption in places due to heavy rainfall expected across the eastern areas.
The heavy and persistent rain will gradually clear southwards through the evening but it will remain rather cloudy, with wind conditions easing later.
Met Éireann forecasts that strong and gusty northerly winds will ease, with temperatures dropping to lows of 4 to 7 degrees.
The outlook for the week is mixed, with some rain expected along with bright, sunny spells and cooler temperatures, especially on Saturday.
