After a successful decade in Long Island City, M. Wells Steakhouse has temporarily relocated to Bushwick, teaming up with New York Distilling Company for a Sugar Shack series beginning March 30. Co-founders Sarah Obraitis and Hugue Dufour, noted for their Michelin-starred cuisine, aim to provide family-style meals celebrating Dufour's Quebecois roots, including a variety of hearty dishes and desserts. The collaboration is seen as a mutually beneficial step, allowing both establishments to thrive while embracing seasonal flavors and community engagement.
We're so excited about it, says Obraitis. According to their website, one can expect family-style servings of glazed ribs, baked beans, chicken pastillas, pate, cured fish, sausage made with scallops, aged foie gras, plus pots of pickles and dope desserts.
Just the uncertainty with the costs of operating a restaurant, it was just, like, oh my gosh, you have a need. We have a need, says Obraitis on a next step with less risk.
It's a win-win for both spaces, says distillery co-owner Allen Katz. Their underutilized dining hall area will be activated. We've been looking for the right collaborators to launch our new Chef-In-Residence series at the distillery and M. Wells is a perfectly glorious fit.
I have been fans of theirs since they opened their original location! says Katz in a statement to Eater.
