Bryant Park has undergone a significant transformation from a rundown area plagued by issues to a vibrant hub for commerce and entertainment. The revival began with bi-annual fashion weeks and has expanded to include seasonal events like summer film series and winter markets. A particularly notable feature is the concentration of bakeries along West 40th Street, which has developed into a niche for bakery businesses. Industry experts emphasize that while commercial clustering may seem counterproductive, it effectively enhances consumer attraction and engagement in the area.
"West 40th Street has became a bakery product niche the way there are other [centralised retail] niches in New York," said Dan Pisark, vice president for retail and amenities at Bryant Park Corporation (BPC).
Yet while neither commercial clusters nor bakeries are unique to Bryant Park, the concept "sort of hits you [here] in the face," Winograd said.
