"I started making blueberry muffins and then it progressed to mini donuts. During the process, I initially tried to make gluten-free donuts, but this didn't work out. Once I started making regular donuts, things began to turn around."
"I'm grateful that I did pop-ups because now that I'm doing this week to week, even when I don't feel like baking or trying out a new flavor, I can just throw stuff down."
"This used to be a barbershop, then it was an art shop. It has been so many things."
Nyla's Petite Bakery is located on West 145th Street in Harlem, owned by 17-year-old Nyla Reese Clayton. She started the bakery at home during the COVID-19 pandemic at age 12, inspired by her mother's vegan lifestyle after a health diagnosis. Clayton began baking with a mini donut machine and transitioned from gluten-free to regular donuts. She gained experience through pop-up events in Brooklyn and Harlem. The bakery operates on weekends, offering popular items like strawberry kisses donuts and banana pudding flavored donuts, available for online order or in-store pickup.
