There is also a chance of hail and thunder this Saturday, with moderate to gusty winds.
It will be a wet and blustery morning on Sunday, with outbreaks of rain, which might turn heavy at times in Connacht and Ulster. By afternoon, the rain will turn patchy across Munster and south Leinster, bringing possible bright and sunny spells.
Monday morning will start dry with bright or sunny spells and light and patchy rain. But the persistent rain will develop in the west on Monday afternoon, later spreading eastwards across the country.
The national forecaster said the rest of next week will see unsettled conditions with rain and showers. However, the temperatures will improve in the early days of next week and will become closer to the average for the time of the year.
