Delice & Sarrasin, a plant-based French eatery in the West Village, is facing closure due to unexpected delivery surcharges linked to New York's congestion pricing scheme. Owner Christophe Caron reports that surcharges from distributors have ballooned, with fees for deliveries rising to $10 each. Along with these surcharges, already high ingredient costs and a decline in customer turnout post-pandemic have put the restaurant in a precarious financial position, with estimates indicating it may only last three to six months without significant changes.
We're at this point now when we're just open to pay bills,” owner Christophe Caron told The Post, estimating the 12-year-old eatery has just three to six months left before it goes under.
By the end of the year, [I'll be paying] up to $2,000 just for one supplier, minimum,” he added. “[For all my suppliers], it's more like $8,000 to $10,000.
