An Over 50-Year-Old West Village Favorite Heads East
Briefly

Corner Bistro, a historic burger restaurant established in 1961, is poised to open a second location in the East Village at 94 Avenue A. Owner Elizabeth McGrath has submitted a proposal to Community Board 3 for a space accommodating 50 patrons, complete with a bar, operating from daytime into late-night hours. This planned bistro would occupy the former sites of Offside Tavern and the longstanding Sidewalk Cafe. Meanwhile, East Williamsburg's Brooklyn Mirage has canceled its reopening due to inspection delays, impacting its dining court's launch, while Zuni Cafe will partner with Claud for a collaborative dinner event later in the month.
McGrath's parents, Bill O'Donnell and Lorraine O'Donnell, opened the original restaurant in 1961; she took over in 2015.
The potential expansion would operate on the street level of the address with daytime into late-night hours, space for 50 people, and a bar.
If approved, this second Corner Bistro would take over what was sports bar Offside Tavern (which closed in January), and the 34-year-old Sidewalk Cafe, which closed in 2019.
Brooklyn Mirage's reopening has been delayed, as reported by Greenpointers. On Instagram, the venue wrote that 'we were not able to meet the final inspection deadline.'
