West Village candlelight vigil remembers Sam Nordquist, other trans lives lost
Briefly

A vigil held on February 21 honored Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old Black trans man murdered in Upstate New York. The event also remembered other trans individuals lost to violence, including 29-year-old Tahiry Broom. Community members gathered at the Church of the Village, a historic LGBTQ+ space, to mourn and underline the importance of support for the transgender community. Hosted by PFLAG NYC and other advocacy groups, the vigil featured powerful messages about love, inclusivity, and the need to combat transphobia and violence.
Know that there are places that are openly affirming, and there are places that are radically inclusive, just like this place. Don't let them tell you that there aren't places to go.
Who are we? We're trans. We were created for love and by love.
