According to a recent Gallup poll, nearly 8% of US adults now identify as LGBTQ+, a significant increase from 3.5% in 2012. This shift highlights changing societal attitudes towards sexual orientation and identity.
The survey indicated that almost 5% of all adults identify as bisexual, comprising a substantial 57.3% of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, suggesting that bisexuality remains a major aspect of contemporary sexual orientation.
Younger generations, particularly Gen Z, are increasingly identifying as LGBTQ+, with over 20% within this age group reporting non-heterosexual orientations, indicative of evolving cultural acceptance and understanding.
The findings also reveal a gender disparity, with women almost twice as likely as men to identify as LGBTQ+, suggesting differing societal pressures and norms that affect sexual identity.
