LGBTQ+ Ukrainians are showing resilience and advocating for rights during Kharkiv Pride, despite the challenges of war and societal attitudes towards homosexuality.
The auto Pride event emphasized safety amidst the ongoing conflict, allowing participants to peacefully express their demand for equal rights and recognition from the government.
Anna Sharygina, co-organizer of Kharkiv Pride, stated, 'We remember every day how important Ukraine's victory is, just as important to us is the fight for equal rights and the protection of the LGBTQ+ community.'
Despite progress, same-sex marriage remains banned in Ukraine, reflecting lingering societal animosity towards the LGBTQ+ community, as highlighted by the World Values Survey.
