Josh Tepper, whose cousin was recently rescued from Hamas, faced an antisemitic attack at a Lower East Side restaurant. While dining with his partner, Tepper had a pitcher of water poured over him by another patron who shouted, "Free Palestine." This unexpected act left Tepper shaken, as he has never experienced such hostility in his 28 years in New York. The attacker claimed to be thirsty before dousing Tepper. Despite the incident, Tepper expresses his commitment to his Jewish identity and emphasizes that his comments were not political in nature.
"It was a very shocking experience," Tepper said Sunday. "I've lived in New York for 28 years, I'm from here. I'm very proud to be Jewish...".
"That is not a political statement. I didn't say I hate any group of people, I didn't say what side I'm on."
"It was aggressive. It was jarring, it was upsetting."
"... the assailant had grabbed the pitcher by telling employees that he was thirsty and just wanted to refill his glass."
