FDNY firefighters participated in the Second International Battle of the Badges boxing event at Madison Square Garden, achieving an impressive 6-3 victory against teams from various locations, including Ireland and Georgia. A highlight of the night was John Marrero, an EMT from FDNY Station 3, who secured a unanimous decision victory over his opponent with a series of powerful punches. Marrero, who had previously been a victim of violence, expressed his joy about fighting in such a storied venue and praised the contribution of first responders in his life.
Marrero dominated the match, landing massive blows throughout, cruising to a victory by a unanimous decision.
"I'm still taking it in. It is amazing. I still can't believe it," Marrero told The Post before taking the ring.
After the attack, EMS and police officers came to Marrero's aid.
"They put some pressure dressing on my face to kind of control the bleeding. Brought me down to the ambulance and continued to give me care."
