Community members and local officials gathered in Boerum Hill for the first-ever community Iftar, celebrating Ramadan with food and music. The event, organized by Kelly Carroll of the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District and local business owner Omar Abouelnas, aimed to strengthen community ties. Participants enjoyed traditional dishes and traditional Arabic music, emphasizing shared humanity and cultural solidarity. The significance of Iftar extends beyond a meal, embodying moments of prayer and reflection. Notably, Brooklyn hosts a rich and diverse Muslim population, making such events integral for cultural acknowledgment and unity in the community.
"At the end of the day, we are all human beings sharing a time-honored tradition of breaking bread with one another and hopefully, it will bring us all a little closer together."
"Iftar is often regarded as a religious and spiritual act while also marking a time for prayer and reflection."
"Atlantic Avenue is a beautiful part of that mosaic. I’m thrilled that I got to be part of this beautiful celebration of Ramadan."
