Community leader Mary Nolan, who passed away in August 2023, was honored with the co-naming of Fourth Avenue and 95th Street as "Mary Nolan's Way" in Bay Ridge. The ceremony featured the Irish National Anthem and speeches by local leaders, recognizing Nolan's dedication to her community. Emigrating from Ireland in 1953, she was active in various local organizations, including the Irish Immigration Reform Committee and the Emerald Isle Immigration Center, promoting civic awareness and supporting immigrants. Nolan's legacy is cherished by many in the Bay Ridge area.
"Mary loved this community and the people in it, and she was fearless in demanding the best of the people who served it," said Brannan. "She earned the respect of so many and will be deeply missed."
"Nolan was a founding member of the Brooklyn-Staten Island Chapter of the Irish Immigration Reform Committee and the Bay Ridge Irish American Action Association, showcasing her dedication to her community and heritage."
