The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, known for iconic sounds in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Doctor Who, has launched a new downloadable library of its historic audio. This initiative aims to make the Workshop's vast archive accessible to modern musicians. Available for a limited time at an introductory price, the library includes not only original recordings but also new sounds crafted by original members, alongside substantial audio equipment used in their pioneering work. This move continues the Workshop's legacy in electronic music and aims to inspire future creativity in audio production.
"I'm the youngest member of the core Radiophonic Workshop - and I'm 64. We're not going to be around forever. It was really important to leave a creative tool, inspired by our work, for other people to use going forward."
"Paddy Kingsland, Roger Limb, and Mark Ayres... described the new digital library as a unique instrument embodying all of 'the work, processes and equipment that the Workshop created and used.'"
