"Joe Oxley, who resides in Wigan, part of Greater Manchester, has been conjuring dreamy darkwave for the better part of a decade as TVAM. There's plenty of classic goth in what he does, but you can also feel the pull of downtempo and shoegaze, and over the course of three albums he's carved out his own corner of the obsidian."
"He's got the sonic aesthetics dialed in, somewhere between The Cure and Depeche Mode, and Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss - icy layers of synthesizers melding with glacial guitars, pulsing electronic bass, and motorik rhythms."
TVAM, the project of Joe Oxley from Wigan, has developed a distinctive darkwave sound over a decade, drawing from classic goth, downtempo, and shoegaze traditions. Ruins marks his second album for Geoff Barrow's Invada Records. The sonic palette combines icy synthesizer layers with glacial guitars, pulsing electronic bass, and motorik rhythms, creating an aesthetic positioned between The Cure and Depeche Mode alongside Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss. To promote the release, Oxley curated a list of his top five UK goth albums, featuring both canonical works and obscure selections. TVAM has launched a comprehensive UK tour spanning February through March 2026, with dates across major cities including Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, Brighton, London, Cambridge, and Ramsgate.
