Theo Croker, a 39-year-old trumpeter and composer, challenges traditional jazz definitions through his music influenced by global experiences. While considered a true jazz artist with accolades and mentorship, Croker's time spent in China and Brazil broadened his understanding of jazz, which he sees as a more inclusive term that embraces various Black music forms. His upcoming album "Dream Manifest" reflects this ethos, serving as a creative outlet that encourages breaking boundaries and expressing dreams without restrictions, showcasing his eclectic musical exploration.
In other places I go, jazz is viewed broadly as Black music, including artists like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, unlike the stricter American definition.
This album is a fantasy album. I'm manifesting my dreams and putting myself inside of a fantasy, letting go of boundaries that restrict my creativity.
