The Jesus Lizard has premiered a new standalone single titled 'Westside,' the second non-album track they have released since their comeback LP, 'Rack.' Guitarist Duane Denison notes that 'Westside' is connected to 'Cost of Living,' both influenced by cultural references like Leonard Bernstein's 'West Side Story.' Singer David Yow credited a line in 'Westside' to David Lynch's 'Lost Highway.' As the band embarks on a west coast US tour starting May 2nd, this release follows their album that marked a 26-year hiatus from studio records, solidifying their influential noise-rock legacy.
'Westside' goes along with the previous single, 'Cost of Living,' which was subconsciously influenced by Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and hence the name. Really.
'There is a part in 'Westside' where the lyrics say, '... give him back his arm,' that was inspired by David Lynch's Lost Highway, when Robert Blake's character says, 'Give me back my phone.'
The influential noise-rock band initially broke up in 1999, then reunited from 2008 to 2010 before disbanding again. They re-formed once again in 2017.
Rack - which landed on our list of the Best Metal & Hard Rock Albums of 2024 - marked the Jesus Lizard's first album in 26 years.
