"High concept tribute bands are nothing new. It was nearly four decades ago that Dread Zeppelin first appeared, combining reggae beats, an Elvis impersonator, and the music of Led Zeppelin. As unlikely as it might have seemed, Dread Zeppelin scored a deal with IRS Records, releasing three albums. Post-IRS, they'd go on to record and release a dozen more. So the appearance of a band paying tribute to musical metallurgists System of a Down shouldn't raise eyebrows."
"What might, though, is the fact that System of a Clown wear facepaint and masks while they do it. El Guapo opens. System of a Clown Sat, Jan 10, 8pm, $15-$20 The Ritz, San Jose"
High concept tribute bands have a long history. Dread Zeppelin emerged nearly four decades ago, combining reggae beats, an Elvis impersonator, and Led Zeppelin's music. Dread Zeppelin secured a deal with IRS Records and released three albums, then recorded and released about a dozen more post-IRS. A band paying tribute to System of a Down follows that pattern. System of a Clown performs System of a Down material while wearing facepaint and masks. El Guapo serves as the opening act. The show is scheduled for Saturday, Jan 10 at 8pm at The Ritz in San Jose, with tickets priced $15–$20.
