After a fall 1993 release in McLachlan's home country of Canada, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy was issued worldwide in early 1994. The LP, which McLachlan wrote while isolated in a Quebec cabin, helped the singer-songwriter break out internationally, and she followed it a few years later with 1997's Surfacing.
