Jesse Colin Young, famed for his role as the vocalist of The Youngbloods, passed away at his home in South Carolina at the age of 83. Known for the classic anthem 'Get Together,' Young’s voice and music conveyed messages of hope and unity. He demonstrated immense talent from an early age, leading to his formation of The Youngbloods. Despite a decline in output during the 1980s, Young’s work saw a revival in later years. Although he faced health issues with Lyme disease, he returned to music, continuing to inspire through his songs until his passing.
I walked down the stairs and it turned out to be an open mic... That song just stopped me in my tracks.
Young's plaintive voice and hopeful delivery embodied the song's optimism that peace and a brighter future were possible.
Young slowed down after the release of 2006's Celtic Mambo and retreated from touring due to his well-publicized bout of Lyme disease.
The group eventually expanded to a quartet... the rollicking 1967 minor chart hit 'Grizzly Bear'... reflected the vocal chemistry of Corbitt and Young.
