Fear of Men's Jessica Weiss announces solo debut as New German Cinema, shares "My Mistake" ft Carson Cox
""I was going to produce Fear of Men and instead we made something totally different I think." says Cox. "True collaboration which is my preferred way to work on music". What began as an Italo disco experiment evolved into a goth club anthem, charged and restless. It captures the push and pull of Weiss's themes - devotion as both destruction and release."
""The video sets the emotional tone for the record, suspended between eroticism and nightmare," says Weiss. "It draws on cropped mirror framing - a favourite device of Douglas Sirk used to explore themes of emotional and physical entrapment and characters' inner psychological conflicts - moments of dissociation, and the television as a symbol of alienation, inspired by my perennial inspiration, RW Fassbinder.""
Jessica Weiss of Fear of Men issues a debut solo album under the name New German Cinema titled Pain Will Polish Me, produced by Alex DeGroot and due March 27 via Felte. The lead single, "My Mistake," is a duet with Carson Cox of Merchandise that transforms an Italo disco experiment into a goth club anthem, balancing charged, restless energy with themes of devotion as both destruction and release. The single's video, directed by Luke Bather, evokes eroticism and nightmare through cropped mirror framing and television imagery inspired by Douglas Sirk and R.W. Fassbinder.
