"Although LaRussell has courted national recognition - Kyrie Irving recently paid around $11,000 for one of his albums - the rapper remains closely tied to the Bay Area. After playing a Tiny Desk Concert in 2024, he kept throwing shows in his childhood backyard in Vallejo. Recently, he and Lil Jon shot a series of music videos at Bay Area high schools."
""People don't become famous and successful and stay home," he told SFGATE in an interview last year. "They usually move to where other famous and successful people are. But I stay here, and it builds the morale of the community and makes your kids feel like it's attainable." Both Teddy Swims and LaRussell are scheduled to perform on Feb. 6 at EA Sports' Madden Bowl at Chase Center, where they'll be accompanied by Luke Combs, Stephen Wilson Jr. and Gavin Adcock."
LaRussell, a Vallejo rapper known for backyard concerts that draw distant fans, will open the Super Bowl 60 Tailgate Concert and play as the in-stadium house band. The Tailgate Concert will be livestreamed on Peacock at 12:50 p.m., with Teddy Swims headlining. Multiple Super Bowl–related concerts are scheduled in the Bay Area, including performances by Green Day, Counting Crows, Sting, Chris Stapleton, and Bad Bunny's halftime show. LaRussell has maintained Bay Area roots despite growing recognition, staged a Tiny Desk Concert in 2024, and continues community-focused performances. Both LaRussell and Teddy Swims will also play EA Sports' Madden Bowl on Feb. 6.
