OnePlus is moving away from its traditional alert slider, a feature present in every flagship since 2015, to introduce a new customizable button. CEO Pete Lau emphasized that this change comes from user feedback requesting more versatility in the alert slider. The upcoming button will maintain core functions like quick sound profile transitions while providing added capabilities. This shift aims to enhance user experience, and the new customizable smart button, possibly named the "Rubik's Cube key", is set to debut first on the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and subsequently on the OnePlus 14.
The decision comes as the brand received continuous feedback from users who requested a customizable Alert Slider.
Lau confirmed that OnePlus wanted to transition to a more capable "smarter, customizable button".
The alert slider has been part of every OnePlus flagship since the OnePlus 2 from 2015.
OnePlus and parent company Oppo will offer a customizable smart button on their upcoming flagships which may be called the "Rubik's Cube key".
