iOS 26.5 will add end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between Apple and Android - Engadget
""End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging (beta) in Messages is available with supported carriers and will roll out over time," is Apple's official wording about the addition."
"A lock icon will appear in an iPhone user's Messages app when chats to an Android device are taking advantage of the encryption."
"More protections to keep communications private is pretty much always a good thing to see, so that's a welcome addition to what might otherwise be a more incremental iOS 26.5 update."
iOS 26.5 will implement end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between Apple and Android devices. This feature will be available by default and can be confirmed in the Settings under the RCS Messaging menu. A lock icon will indicate encrypted chats in the Messages app. Apple initially added RCS messaging in iOS 18, and the GSM Association supported E2EE last year. Testing began in February with iOS 26.4, and the encryption feature is now officially rolling out, enhancing communication privacy.
