Unhoused South Bay commuters impacted tremendously from ongoing VTA strike
Briefly

The VTA strike in San Jose has severely impacted unhoused individuals who rely on public transport for essential services. With buses and light rail services halted, many are unable to attend appointments or access basic necessities. The founder of the Unhoused Response Group expressed frustration at the lack of contingency planning from local government. There are also noticeable declines in food pantry usage, emphasizing how the strike affects community support systems. While negotiations for a new contract continue, the situation raises urgent concerns over the wellbeing of vulnerable populations in the city.
A lot of people have signed up to get to YMCA to get to shower and everything. The bus stops right in front and we cant go.
I feel like the city and county, like the moment you know the VTA is going to go on strike, you should have a plan in place.
We've noticed like a decrease by 30% of our clients not being to make the pickup for the food. And we've been getting a lot of phone calls asking about doorstep delivery.
