San Jose not on track to open safe sleeping site - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

The opening of San Jose's first safe sleeping site for homeless residents has been postponed from March to this summer due to unspecified delays. Located at 1157 E. Taylor St., the site aims to offer a secure place for up to 56 individuals to camp in tents, complete with security and access to meals, laundry, and supportive services. Community members have expressed concerns over the site's location near schools and parks, fearing possible increases in crime and drug issues as a result of the new site. The city plans additional measures, including no encampment zones nearby.
As our city's first safe sleeping site, we're committed to getting it right. That means ensuring it's ready to serve residents safely and with dignity - just as all our homelessness solutions do.
Residents have raised concerns about the site's proximity to Empire Gardens Elementary School and Watson Park. Neighbors are worried about increased crime and drug dealing in their neighborhood due to the safe sleeping site.
