Eight years after severe floods struck the South Bay area, Valley Water officials announced near completion of phase one of a flood protection project along Coyote Creek. This first phase includes the construction of floodwalls over a four-mile stretch, designed to shield nearby residences from flooding. Chris Hakes from Valley Water emphasized the importance of this project in preventing future flooding similar to past events. The second phase is planned to extend these protections further and is scheduled to commence in 2026.
In this specific area, the water would be up, but in the residences around the area, you wouldn't have any flooding. If this project was here then, you wouldn't have seen the impacts that you saw, at least in this area.
Now, the other phase of the project is required to protect the rest of the community against the 2017 flows.
