Newly discovered California species is already endangered
Briefly

The discovery of the Arctostaphylos nipumu, known as Nipomo Mesa manzanita, is at risk due to a potential housing development in the area. Found by biologist Bill Waycott, this new species is limited to a 7-mile radius around Nipomo and predominantly grows on private lands in sandy soils. Despite this significant find, the San Luis Obispo Local Agency Formation Commission approved the Dana Reserve project for nearly 1,400 residences, which has raised environmental concerns from local officials and non-profits, particularly regarding its impact on the newly identified shrub.
It grows only in sandy environments...it's adapted through evolution to exist in this environment.
I have never seen this many significant adverse impacts on a single project, and I think they should give any decision-maker pause.
