Man found dead in San Mateo County jail

A 25-year-old man died at Maple Street Correctional Center in San Mateo County while in custody. Found unresponsive during a safety check, emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures but pronounced him dead at the scene. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office stated that multiple independent investigations are underway involving the District Attorney's Office and the Coroner's Office to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. The identity of the deceased is withheld pending notification of next of kin, with reassurances that findings will be made public once investigations conclude.
Due to the nature of his passing, independent investigations are being conducted by the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, the San Mateo County Coroner's Office, and Sheriff's detectives.
Officials had conducted a routine safety check of the general population pod the man was housed in just prior to the incident.
