A gas leak at 24th and Hampshire streets led to an evacuation of buildings within a 300-foot radius. Emergency crews worked for hours to secure the area.
Lt. Mariano Elias stated that a construction worker reported a broken gas pipe at 9:15 a.m. after a crew struck a two-inch natural gas line, resulting in a loud noise.
PG&E crews were digging through multiple locations around the intersection to locate and repair the gas leak. The area remains under close monitoring.
There were no reported injuries, and businesses impacted by the evacuation were allowed to reopen by noon, while emergency services continued their operations.
