The unresolved murder of 14-year-old De Anna Lynn Johnson from Vacaville in 1982 has finally reached a conclusion with the sentencing of Marvin Ray Markle Jr. to life imprisonment. After being found severely beaten and strangled, the case went cold for 35 years, until investigations in 2017 identified Markle as the perpetrator. This sentencing adds to his current life sentence for another murder committed in 2001, and highlights ongoing efforts from law enforcement to resolve cold cases, emphasizing the level of brutality involved in Johnson's murder.
"We all know not all murders are created equal," said Solano County chief deputy district attorney Paul Sequeira, referring to the extreme cruelty in the case of De Anna Lynn Johnson."
"From that moment of finding De Anna Lynn Johnson's lifeless body on the railroad tracks and all the years since, Vacaville Police never once gave up," stated Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams.
